About Under18

The Matthew Project's Under18 Service provides support to young people, parents and carers and professionals working with young people. Under18 has taken over the services formerly provided Impact, T2 and elements of The Matthew Project Youth Team (the Youth Team still exists and provides a range of services for young people - see the Youth Team section of the website for further details).

The Under18 service has three teams based across the county in Kings Lynn, Norwich and Great Yarmouth, and workers are also based in North and South Norfolk. Each team has a number of workers including young people's substance misuse workers, counsellors and nurses. The service has a social worker and access to a consultant psychiatrist.

Parents and Carers can access the following support:

  • Advice and information about substances
  • Advice and information about how to support a young person using substances
  • Advice and information for a young carer about how to support a parent or family member using substances
  • 1-2-1 support from a young person's substance misuse worker or counsellor
  • Joint work with your child and a young person's substance misuse worker or counsellor
  • Referral onto other agencies that can help, including carer groups
  • Family therapy and access to other specialist family services

The Matthew Project supports anyone who uses drugs and alcohol and we also support those who care for users of drugs and alcohol. We recognise that substance use does not just affect the user; it affects those people around them too.

We will work with Young Carers who look after or live with parents or siblings or other family members who use drugs or alcohol and help them to develop coping mechanisms, harm reduction strategies and give information and advice around those substances.
