Juliet Frost is The Matthew Project's Carers Worker in Yarmouth. People can receive one to one help, attend a group where people in similar situations can support and learn from each other, or telephone our 24 hour helpline (0800 764 754)
Parents, friends, grand parents, partners and children often despair when they see the life of someone they love fall apart due to drugs and alcohol. Families can break up; there can be major arguments, theft and even violence. Sometimes someone can use drugs for years without their family even knowing and then it is a major shock when the reality dawns. Families try to pick up the pieces.
Julian Bryant, Director of The Matthew Project stated, 'Families can go through all sorts of situations when someone is misusing drugs or alcohol. We have met people in despair who simply do not know what to do. Often they feel isolated and unsure who to approach for help. We want to offer that help. We are here to make that difference.'
The Matthew Project will also be working with MIND who support people with mental health issues and their carers. Together these services will make a real difference to people who really need help and advice.
Both The Matthew Project and MIND have support workers who specifically work with friends and relatives to help them with their individual needs. They offer confidential support by phone, email or in person. This support may be someone to talk to, information about drugs/alcohol, information about other services, counselling, or the chance to meet other people in a similar situation at a lunchtime drop-in session. It can be face to face support, home visits or meeting in alternative confidential spaces.
There will be an information day on Tuesday 24th March 10am - 2pm at MIND, 31 Caister Rd, Gt Yarmouth, NR30 4DA
