Blackfriars Rotary Club Sponsor Crucial Crew
Crucial Crew is a week long interactive safety event for school children run by Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service from the 15th-19th September. The support from Blackfriars Rotary Club will help the Matthew Project Youth Team deliver 100 interactive sessions throughout the week to 1,000 10 and 11 year olds who will learn about the effects of smoking.
Gordon Hamilton, Club President Rotary Blackfriars says "We have worked with the Youth Team for the last twelve months, during which time we have been able to see first hand how the team engages with youngsters to help them understand the effects of drug and alcohol abuse. We are, therefore, delighted to be sponsoring the Team at this year's Crucial Crew Event which will enable them to reach so many of our young people"
Throughout the year the Rotary Club have;
-
Sponsored 2 days of lessons and educational sessions on the Big Red Bus for pupils at Thorpe High School and CNS High School. Over 300 pupils received drug awareness, smoking and alcohol education.
-
Funded a leadership course for one of the volunteer Youth Workers
-
Decorated the reception area and some of the counselling rooms at Pottergate
Julian Bryant, Director of the Matthew Project comments "We are so pleased to have received the support of Blackfriars Rotary Club over the last year. They have been such an encouragement to us and have helped to make a significant difference to people in need. Thank you to everyone at the Rotary Club who has helped"
