News > Innovative DVD launched about the risks of drugs and alcohol
19 November 2007

''Stoned in the Sticks''

An innovative new educational DVD has been made by young people in Norfolk about their experiences with drugs and alcohol. This fresh resource is ideal for facilitating discussion with young people at risk about substances.

This resource has been produced by the Young People's Steering Group with support from The Matthew Project's T2 team. T2 is a Norfolk-wide service for young people (19 or under) who want support and information about drugs and alcohol and related issues.
The DVD is suitable for young people 13 years and over.

Melanie Long T2 Senior Practitioner said ''The aim of this project was to produce a high quality DVD to encourage a frank look at drugs, alcohol and young people in Norfolk. We felt it was really important to include the views and input of Norfolk young people at every stage of this project. I hope ''Stoned in the Sticks" can be used to engage at risk young people in useful debate about the consequences of drug and alcohol use."

The group of young people came up with the ideas of the DVD and attended workshops at Community Music East for the production and editing and have learnt many new skills along the way. The DVD was launched at The Grange in Norwich on Monday 12th November and received a very warm response with many commenting on its quality and useful content.

A member of T2 Steering Group who is 16 commented, "I enjoyed making the DVD, I liked that it wasn't biased, we had the chance to put opinions across without being stereotyped. The presentation (launch) went well; I think people enjoyed the DVD. I hope it can be used to let teens know what could happen, the good and bad effects."
