Criminal Justice >  Drugs Rehabilitation Requirement

The Drugs Rehabilitation Requirement (DRR) is issued by the court and run by probation and treatment agencies. The Matthew Project has compliance workers in Norwich and Great Yarmouth.

The DRR can give the client focus, optimism and the opportunity for real change.

A DRR is an opportunity for those who want to stop their drug use and offending behaviour to make the necessary changes to their lives.

They need to indicate that they are willing to undertake the requirement.
  • They will then be required to attend assessments with Probation and the Treatment Agency for their suitability and pre-sentence reports.
  • Assuming that these reports are favourable, the court can impose the DRR as part of the sentence.
  • It may be possible for 'fast track' to scripting at this point through the Drugs Interventions Programme.
  • A weekly time-table is given to the client to inform them of their daily commitments. This helps to build structure to the client's week.

The DRR Team comprises of Probation (case management), Treatment Agency (scripting, screening and health issues), Group Work Provider (managing change, relapse prevention etc.) and a Compliance Worker (support and help to comply with the requirement). There are also other helping agencies (i.e. housing, training etc) to whom the client can be referred.
